Aunt Betsey has an unexpected visitor when her long-absent husband returns. Meanwhile, David learns that Emily has fled after Steerforth abandons her. Mrs Steerforth makes it clear that she will do anything to protect her son. Daniel is convinced Emily is alive and likely hiding in London.
