But he didn't show up on time and his ankle monitor had been cut. The next day, relatives found his mother stabbed to death in the basement of her home. Eight months later, Merritt was found in Nashville, TN, under an assumed name. When the murder trial started four years later, Merritt claimed an intruder had attacked them both and he had fled for his life.
