Carry Wagner
Carry Wagner (1896-1993)—the owner of an antique store called The Charm Shop, in New York's Greenwich Village—went on trips to purchase jewelry and other items for her business (from 1939 to the mid-1960s), during which he recorded on 16mm film, leaving behind a remarkable record of the places around the world he visited in the years after World War II.
The daughter of Jewish emigrants from Eastern Europe, she grew up on the Lower East Side and, as a young woman, became involved in the women's suffrage movement and union struggles taking place in New York City at the time. In 1997, filmmaker Joel Katz made a documentary about Wagner called "Dear Carry."
